Verbs Questions for Class 2 English Olympiad | Grade 2 IEO | Glovoy

Class 2 English 5 free questions · Updated March 2026

Verbs are the engine of a sentence — without a verb, a sentence is incomplete. Class 2 IEO tests action verbs, linking verbs and correct subject-verb agreement. Bronze questions identify the verb in a simple sentence. Silver questions test whether the verb form matches a singular or plural subject. Gold questions require identifying multiple verbs in one sentence, or selecting the correct tense to make a sentence grammatically accurate. A firm grasp of verb forms is essential for the grammar section of the IEO paper.

Bronze

Which word is the verb in this sentence: 'Maya reads a book every evening.'?

A Maya
B reads
C book
D evening
▶ Show Answer

Correct: B) reads

'Reads' is the verb — it describes what Maya does. Verbs are action or state words that tell us what the subject is doing.

2
Silver

Choose the correct verb form: 'Aarav and Rohan ___ to school every day.'

A walks
B walk
C is walking
D walked
▶ Show Answer

Correct: B) walk

When the subject is plural ('Aarav and Rohan'), the verb does not take an -s. We say 'they walk', not 'they walks'.

A She go to the market yesterday.
B They plays cricket on weekends.
C Priya danced beautifully at the concert.
D He walk to school every morning.

Which option correctly changes the sentence 'Rohan writes a letter to his grandmother' to the past tense?

A Rohan wrote a letter to his grandmother.
B Rohan had write a letter to his grandmother.
C Rohan is writing a letter to his grandmother.
D Rohan writes a letter to his grandmother yesterday.
▶ Show Answer

Correct: A) Rohan wrote a letter to his grandmother.

The simple past tense of 'writes' is 'wrote'. Option B uses 'write' incorrectly after 'had'. Option C changes to present continuous. Option D is wrong — 'yesterday' cannot be used with simple present tense.

A Aarav runs very fast.
B The cat sat quietly by the window.
C Maya sang and danced at the school party.
