Silver questions require adding or subtracting fractions with the same denominator. Gold questions use two different denominators that must be converted before they can be compared or combined. A child who understands fractions as equal parts of a whole — not just a symbol — will handle all three difficulty levels comfortably.
Aarav cuts a pizza into 4 equal slices and eats 1 slice. What fraction of the pizza is left?
Correct: C) 3/4
4 equal slices total. Aarav eats 1, so 3 slices remain. 3 out of 4 = 3/4.
Maya has a ribbon that is 1 metre long. She cuts off 1/4 of it for one project and 1/2 of it for another. What fraction of the ribbon is left?
Correct: A) 1/4
1/2 = 2/4. Used: 1/4 + 2/4 = 3/4. Remaining: 1 − 3/4 = 1/4.
A water tank is 3/4 full. After some water is used, it becomes 1/4 full. What fraction of the tank's water was used?
Correct: C) 1/2
Water used = 3/4 − 1/4 = 2/4 = 1/2. Half the tank's water was used.
Rohan spends 1/3 of his pocket money on a book and 1/2 of his pocket money on snacks. What fraction of his pocket money is left?
Correct: B) 1/6
Convert to sixths: 1/3 = 2/6 and 1/2 = 3/6. Spent: 2/6 + 3/6 = 5/6. Left: 1 − 5/6 = 1/6.
Priya has 24 marbles. She gives 1/4 of them to Aarav and 1/3 of them to Maya. How many marbles does Priya have left?
Correct: B) 10
Given to Aarav: 1/4 × 24 = 6. Given to Maya: 1/3 × 24 = 8. Total given away: 6 + 8 = 14. Left: 24 − 14 = 10.
