Shapes and Geometry Questions for Class 2 Olympiad | Grade 2 Math IMO | Glovoy

Class 2 Math 5 free questions · Updated March 2026

Shapes and geometry questions in the Class 2 IMO test far more than naming shapes. Bronze questions ask about properties — how many sides, does this shape have right angles? Silver questions require applying that knowledge: choosing the correct shape from a description, or spotting what makes one shape different from another. Gold questions combine geometry with measurement — perimeter, area or tile-counting. Knowing the name of a shape is the start; understanding what makes it that shape is what earns marks.

A rectangle is 9 cm long and 3 cm wide. Aarav draws a square with the same perimeter as the rectangle. What is the side length of Aarav's square?

A 4 cm
B 5 cm
C 6 cm
D 7 cm
▶ Show Answer

Correct: C) 6 cm

Perimeter of rectangle = 2 × (9 + 3) = 24 cm. A square has 4 equal sides, so each side = 24 ÷ 4 = 6 cm.

Priya tiles a floor using square tiles, each with a side of 1 cm. She covers a rectangle that is 6 cm long and 4 cm wide. She then removes all the tiles along the edges. How many tiles remain in the middle?

A 8
B 10
C 12
D 16
▶ Show Answer

Correct: A) 8

Total tiles: 6 × 4 = 24. Removing the border leaves a rectangle that is (6 − 2) = 4 cm long and (4 − 2) = 2 cm wide: 4 × 2 = 8 tiles remain.
