Logical reasoning is the section of Class 2 IMO that rewards structured thinking over speed. These questions cannot be memorised — they must be worked through step by step. Bronze questions involve simple calendar logic or ordering. Silver questions use comparison chains (Aarav is taller than Rohan, who is shorter than Maya) to determine a unique order. Gold questions place multiple conditions together: the child must satisfy all conditions simultaneously to arrive at a single correct answer.
If the 1st of a month falls on a Monday, what day of the week is the 8th of that month?
Correct: B) Monday
The 8th is exactly 7 days after the 1st. Since 7 days = 1 full week, the 8th falls on the same day as the 1st — Monday.
Aarav is taller than Rohan. Maya is shorter than Rohan. Priya is taller than Aarav. Who is the shortest among the four?
Correct: C) Maya
Order from tallest to shortest: Priya > Aarav > Rohan > Maya. Maya is the shortest.
In a row of students, Rohan is the 5th from the left and the 4th from the right. How many students are in the row?
Correct: B) 8
Total students = (position from left) + (position from right) − 1 = 5 + 4 − 1 = 8.
Aarav, Maya, Rohan and Priya each have a different number of stickers: 12, 15, 18 or 21. Aarav has more than Maya but fewer than Priya. Rohan has the most. How many stickers does Aarav have?
Correct: B) 15
Rohan has the most = 21. Priya > Aarav > Maya, so Priya = 18, Aarav = 15, Maya = 12. Aarav has 15 stickers.
Five houses stand in a row. The red house is to the left of the blue house. The yellow house is between the red and blue houses. The green house is to the right of the blue house. The white house is at the far right. What is the order of houses from left to right?
Correct: A) Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, White
Red is left of Blue, with Yellow between them: Red, Yellow, Blue. Green is right of Blue. White is far right. Order: Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, White.
