SOF IMO Class 5 Syllabus & Exam Pattern

From Class 5, the IMO has two levels: Level 1 (the school round, held November-December) and Level 2 (the international final, early in the new year) for students who qualify.

Class 5 exam format (Level 1)

Section 1: Logical Reasoning 15 1 15
Section 2: Mathematical Reasoning 20 1 20
Section 3: Everyday Mathematics 10 1 10
Section 4: Achievers (HOTS) 5 3 15
Total 50 60

Time: 60 minutes. Multiple choice, 4 options, marked on an OMR sheet. No negative marking. For Class 5, each Achievers question is worth 3 marks, and the Achievers Section draws harder questions from the Mathematical Reasoning syllabus.

Class 5 Mathematical Reasoning topics

Section 2 (Mathematical Reasoning) and Section 3 (Everyday Mathematics) test these topics; the Achievers Section reuses them at a harder level. For Class 5, SOF's syllabus covers:

Large numbers (7-8 digit)Computation operationsFractions & decimalsMeasurement & conversionsAnglesPerimeter & area (rectangle & square)SymmetryData handling

Section 1 (Logical Reasoning) adds non-maths puzzles: patterns, analogy, coding-decoding, mirror images, ranking and more, escalating by grade.
